Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, or MBSR, is an evidence-based approach to wellness and healing developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn. It’s used to help people manage ADHD, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, and much more. What sets MBSR apart from other forms of mindfulness practices is that it has been clinically proven to help relieve stress.
A meta-analysis of nearly twenty studies found that following meditation based stress reduction techniques helped individuals with a myriad of physical and mental health problems feel better. That is not to say that MBSR is a replacement for medical care – it’s not – but it is a vital tool to use when combatting stress-related health problems.
The simple answer is – everyone. Twenty-first century life is not easy. From global problems like climate change to personal struggles, like how to find a job, we all have our struggles. Learning techniques to manage stress and snap out of ‘autopilot mode’ is a critical life skill.
Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, chronic pain, or just going through a rough patch, taking a mindfulness based stress reduction course will help you stay centered.
Depending on where you live, you may be able to find a mindfulness based stress reduction course in your local area. MBSR trainers go through a considerable certification process. That means that you, as a student, can be guaranteed you’re learning techniques that have been proven to help means that they are not always easy to come by. It also means, however, that certified MBSR courses are not always easy to come by.
If you don’t have a certified MBSR teacher in your area then your next best option is to look online. One of the resources that we love is positive psychology’s MBSR overview. You can also look for mindfulness guided practices that are based in MBSR techniques like these two. Or enrich your day-to-day with a brief mindfulness reading.
Of course, we recognize that not everyone has the time in their schedule to devote to an in-person or online course. That’s why we’re such big fans of audio learning that can be accessed on-the-go.
Alpe Audio’s Everyday Mindfulness course was designed and delivered by Dr. Dina Wyshogrod, a certified MBSR practitioner. Over the course of nineteen lessons (and seventeen guided practices) you will learn the skills of mindfulness based stress reduction – without ever having to attend a lecture or sit down in front of your computer.
All of our lessons are completely audio based, which means you can put them on while driving, jogging, or cooking supper.
